William S. Hart Regional Park, Santa Clarita, CA
Since 1994, the Hart of the West Pow Wow has been a beloved annual community gathering at William S. Hart Park in Newhall. Originally named in honor of silent film star William S. Hart—whose legacy and residence continue to shape the park’s history—the Pow Wow has grown into a major cultural event for the Santa Clarita Valley and Los Angeles County. Over the past three decades, the Pow Wow has evolved into a powerful expression of Native identity, resilience, and community. In 2019, the Pow Wow Committee formed a partnership with the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians (FTBMI), a historic California State–recognized Native American tribe that continues to seek federal recognition. Today, the Pow Wow not only celebrates the enduring heritage of Indigenous peoples but also serves as a dynamic platform for cultural education, intertribal exchange, and community connection. The 2026 Heart of Tataviam Pow Wow will take place on October 3rd & 4th, 2026 at William S. Hart Park.
